Discussion Questions

1. What is it about our human nature that causes us to hurt so much when we feel insulted, disrespected, or dishonored?

2. How do you normally respond when you've been "dissed"? Circle words that best represent "normal" responses: anger, sulk, self-pity, plot revenge, hold grudge, bitter heart, expect it, let go, forgive, rejoice.

3. According to 1 Peter 4:12-16, what should be our expectation of suffering? What should be the pattern of our response to suffering?

4. Think of everyone who has disrespected or dishonored you-maybe jot down their names. Two steps may make it easier to forgive them: First, distinguish between those who have intentionally and unintentionally hurt you. Second, if you can, distinguish between those who have actually disrespected you versus those toward whom you have been overly sensitive. Now, forgive all those who have sinned against you one by one, and ask forgiveness for those against whom you have sinned. Finally, ask the Lord to help you not be surprised, to rejoice, and to count yourself blessed.
