Discussion Questions

1. The term "disciple" is a word we use so often that, if we're not careful, we can assume everyone understands what it means when they really don't. What is your favorite "summary" for the term disciple, if you have one?

2. In John 13:34-35 what is the "summary" Jesus gives for what it means to be a disciple? From Galatians 5:14 and Romans 13:8-10, what new information do we get to amplify on Jesus' summary?

3. ANSWER ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Of 42,000,000 professing Christian men in America, only 6,000,000-one in seven-are involved in discipleship. Could this explain why Christian men have not had much impact on government, corporations, education, media, families, culture, and society? If yes, how so?

    OR…

  • Comment on the following: "Do we really need any more Christians? We haven't been faithful with the Christians we already have. Why should God entrust us with more?" What is the purpose of making such a statement?

4. What is one practical thing you can do today to apply Jesus' teaching in your family, work, ministry, or community?
