Impact
A mechanic sold a used vehicle to a couple. Unfortunately, in the process of rebuilding the motor prior to the sale, the mechanic forgot to clamp one of the hoses--which resulted in the car overheating and needing major repair. The buyer offered to pay for the repair, even though the damage was due to the mechanic's error. The mechanic refused to accept payment, and this opened the door for witnessing. Additionally, the mechanic encouraged the buyer to visit the church he attended. Praise the Lord the couple prayed with the pastor to receive Christ! Needless to say, the mechanic is exuberant that he was privileged to play a part in this couple's salvation.

The emphasis of this event is to call generations of men together to honor God, hear from God, and to embolden each man to leave a legacy of spiritual leadership and faithfulness from one generation to the next. Psalm 145:4 captures the essence of the day: “One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts.” For more information visit www.standinthegap2007.org.

Reach the World: 44% of Men Say They Discuss Spiritual Issues with Others. “Americans frequently engage others in conversations about faith and spirituality. More than two out of every five (44%) say they discussed a specific spiritual issue or belief in the last month with someone who belongs to a different faith,” according to Barna Research.

How can you help the men of your church reach out to others? Here are two tools to help: Reach 3 Cards are an easy tool to help guys begin praying for three friends to share their faith with. For Your Marriage: Men and the Home. According to recent survey statistics, women in Australia spend more than twice as much time doing unpaid domestic chores as men.

And a new survey in America show that couples place a higher value on “sharing chores” than “raising kids” in terms of what makes a healthy marriage.

What do your men think of marriage? Do they have a biblical worldview? How are they doing balancing their work and family life? Encourage them to save some time, creativity, energy, and wisdom for their families.

Want practical help? Order Devotions for Couples for about $1 each to distribute to all your men.

For Your Men: What Does It Take to Be the Spiritual Leader in the Home?

Many men are confused. They don't know what it means to be the spiritual leader in the home. According to the May 7, 2007 Barna Update, mothers are more likely to be the ‘spiritual energizer' of the home, and their spirituality is stronger than that of fathers. Read more here.

Reboot (with Joshua) Characteristics of a Leader (Joshua 1:14-15)

Recall that Joshua is preparing the Reubenites, Gadites and half tribe of Manassah to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River . He has exhorted them to be accountable to the commitment they made to Moses and to “go in front” of the Israelites.

Be Team Players (v14).

14Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, fully armed, must cross over ahead of your brothers . You are to help your brothers

Joshua directs the Reubenites, Gadites and half tribe of Manassah to join and work with the other tribes of Israel as they move in to take the Promised Land. Joshua directs the fighting men to help the Israelites conquer the Promised Land.

Everyone together: those with the inheritance and those yet to receive it. They were to share the burden. Those to whom God is giving rest he expects to wage war alongside those yet to receive rest. The conquest must be undertaken by all Israel . The command was to “help your brothers.”

It takes a team. We are not all wired the same way. We are called to different roles and the Holy Spirit gifts us for those roles. “Different strokes for different folks.” In the course of ministering to men, we are called to connect, encourage, and exhort. It is not necessary that these functions all be performed by the same man. We are to live the call together. We must grow in the Lord together. For some reason, men think they can fight the battles of life alone. Men do not ask for directions, right? The role of those who are being given rest is to help their brothers who have yet to receive rest. The battles of life are never intended to be fought in isolation. We need each other. Ministering to men requires teamwork: teamwork in leadership; teamwork in connecting with other men, evangelism and teamwork in spiritual growth.

16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work (Eph 4:16).

Those to whom God is giving rest he commands to be a part of the team.

We are not just to serve the poor, but we are to become poor.
