V21 And she tied the scarlet cord in the window. There is a parallel here between the blood placed over the doorway in Egypt (Ex 12:22-23) and the scarlet cord. If Rahab hung a scarlet cord from her window the army of Israel (angel of death) would pass over her and her family. If she did not hang the scarlet cord in tne window, she and her family would die. She brought her family under the atoning blood of Christ. Have you placed yourself under the atoning blood of Jesus Christ? Obedience. Rahab hung the scarlet cord in the window immediately after sending the spies on their way. She did not know when the army was going to attack. In fact she told the spies to hide for three days. Therefore, it would be a week or more before the army attacked. She may have recognized that when the army attacked she might forget. Or she, like the wise virgins waiting for the bridegroom, wanted to be prepared. Or, it may have been a sign to the Lord of her commitment and faith in him. Are you hesitant to make a statement for Christ? Risk. Rahab had already been questioned by the “police” about the spies. Now she was hanging a very obvious sign from a window in the wall of the city. There is nothing like calling attention to herself. What was she thinking? Are you willing to take a risk for Christ? Death has a way of straightening out one’s theology. - Richard Swenson
