Be all God called you to be! FOCUSING WITH JOSHUA 4:15-18a (The Lord is There)
Step by step, the Lord directed the crossing of the Jordan. Once the people had crossed, He instructed the priests, with the Ark of the Covenant, to move out of the river bed to the west bank of the Jordan. The Ark led the way and then came behind. The context: God saved the Israelites by making a way across the Red Sea. He saved them. God began the process of sanctifying the Israelites by making a way across the Jordan River. He gave them the abundant life. God led the way, was present in the middle and followed from behind. Jehovah Shammah – The Lord is There (Ezekiel 48:35, Psalm 23:4). Do you experience God’s presence in all that you do? Does He lead you in your actions? Is He there in the middle? Are you aware of Him at the end? God is always at work. Have you seen Him in the rear-view mirror? Are you, like Brother Lawrence, “Practicing the Presence of God?” GOD IS AT WORK Three testimonies:
NEWS The Summit offered 5 main sessions and over 20 different workshops. Attendees heard Patrick Morley speak on The State of the Men's Movement, and How to Survive the Economic Meltdown. David Delk shared the four strategies Man in the Mirror is pursuing to help fulfill its mission to reach every man in America with the Gospel. Pete Alwinson shared a personal challenge for leaders to look forward to the new year with courage and opportunity. Ministry leaders like Ike Newingham (The Gathering), Roy Abbott (Focal Point), Rich Gerberding (Men of AIM), David Dusek (Reaching Every Man Florida) and Brian Doyle (ISI) shared ideas and best practices. We also heard from denominational leaders like Doug Haugen (ELCA), Larry Malone (UMC), Bill Terry (IPHC), and Leonard Albert (COG-Cleveland). And that's not everyone! Many of the sessions were taped and Man in the Mirror is busy preparing those videos for online posting. Check the Man in the Mirror website regularly if you would like to see them. In addition, the official blog http://www.maninthemirrorsummit.blogspot.com continues to be updated with pictures, reviews, comments and news from the Summit and its attendees. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! MIM is planning the 2010 Annual Summit for the last weekend in January once again (the weekend before the Super Bowl seems to work well!) MINISTRY OF THE MONTH The goal of Portsmouth Alliance Men is to disciple every man in our church. Our motto is No Man Left Behind based on the book from Man In the Mirror. In 2008, 22 men come out each Saturday for a Bible Study on the Book “A Quiet Strength” by Tony Dungy. We finished the study with a fish fry lunch and fellowship. This winter we will start another study based on the book “3:16” by Max Lucado. Each week our men are engaged in several areas. We have prayer meetings on Wednesday at 6:30 AM, on Sunday at 9 AM and on Sunday evening at 6 PM. Each Monday morning about 15 men gather a local restaurant for breakfast and fellowship. Upcoming events are a lunch for all men to meet with our new associate pastor, Doug Ellenberger. We hosted a men’s banquet during missions conference in January. For more information, contact Rim Rodier at 757-465-4118. What is God doing in your men’s ministry? PERSONAL TOOLKIT Somebody's Daughter: A Journey of Freedom from Pornography. Pornography is a serious problem in the church. Surveys indicate that between 50 and 65 percent of the men in the pew have serious problems with pornography. In this DVD, three men and a husband and wife share their personal struggle with pornography confronting the lies and darkness of this addictive force with compelling honesty and hope. The DVD also contains four music videos and eight vignettes. The 55 minute bonus CD contains 9 original songs, stories, poetry, and scripture readings. Find out more at www.somebodysdaughter.org. LEADERSHIP TOOLKIT Tool: Answer God’s Call. Perhaps someone asked you to lead your men’s group or be part of a men’s leadership team. Or perhaps you want some one to give prayerful consideration to leading men. The NEED is compelling, the CALL is clear and there is a compelling HOPE. God is committed to men’s ministry! Are you? Read more. (Article of the Month). New on the Book Shelf. I really do not need to read another book on Christian leadership. That is what I thought when someone handed me Leadership As An Identity (Moody, 2009) by Crawford Loritts Jr. Loritts divides the subject into four areas: brokenness, communion, servanthood, and obedience. He examines several facets of each trait and populates each with examples and quotations from well known Christian leaders. As Loritts lays them out it is clear that one does not come by these traits with self-discipline. God equips the called. A challenging read. Read more.
