New Books Lead to New Events from MIM
Two Great Evening Events for the Men AND Women of Your Church and Community
Surviving the Economic Meltdown
Host a two hour outreach event at your church based on Patrick Morley's new book, How to Survive the Economic Meltdown. You have four options: You can teach it, select someone to teach it, show DVDs of Patrick Morley teaching it, or have one of our faculty teach it for you-your call. Go here for more information.
An Evening for Couples
Your church can host An Evening for Couples, based on the new book, The Marriage Prayer. You could put on a dinner, a dessert, or just host a gathering. Help the couples of your church and community with biblical application, real-life stories, and introduce them to praying for their spouse every day. We'll give each attendee a Marriage Prayer card and the book itself makes a great takeaway for follow-up and small groups. We have marketing materials (posters, bulletin inserts, an email header, etc.) that you can use to promote the event (see www.themarriageprayer.org). If you are interested or want additional information, email ruthcameron@maninthemirror.org. |

Dear Pam
The 411 on Successful Men's Events
Dear Pam, We are having a Super Bowl gathering for our men and wanted to be able to offer the men that come an opportunity to get into an ongoing fellowship group. Do you have any recommendations on how to do this or which study might be good to offer? --Football Fanatic in OH
Dear Football Fanatic,
I love football too! I congratulate you on providing this
opportunity for the men of your church. Here are a few things I would recommend
you do:
1. Get some men in place to lead these groups (approximately
1 leader for every 7-10 men)
2. Decide how long you want the study to be (6 weeks is a
good start), then base your curriculum on that. Half Time might be appropriate! (available by the case for
about $1 per book). The Seven Season's
Life Plan is another good resource with a sports theme. ChristianBibleStudies.com has a study entitled Finding God in Sports.
3. When you first get together for the game, make an
announcement about the groups and introduce the men to whichever curriculum you
chose.
4. At half-time, introduce your group leaders and announce what day and time they are meeting. Ask the men to get
into their groups right then. The leader will distribute the curriculum to each
man and gather contact information for the men in their group so that he can
contact them during the week to encourage them and remind them of their group
meeting that week.
Enjoy the game!! May this be the beginning of several
ongoing discipleship groups.

Scrooge Lives! Why we're not putting more in the offering plate and what we can do about it from ChristianityToday.com
"More than one out of four American Protestants give away no money at all-not even a token $5 per year," say sociologists Christian Smith, Michael Emerson, and Patricia Snell in a new study on Christian giving, Passing the Plate (Oxford University Press).
Of all Christian groups, evangelical Protestants score best: only 10 percent give nothing away. Evangelicals tend to be the most generous, but they do not outperform their peers enough to wear a badge of honor."

Brooksville Ministry Focuses on Keeping Young Men on Track From The St. Petersburg Times
At a time of year when songs promote goodwill toward men, the Rev. Clarence D. Clark Sr. is hoping some will be extended toward area youth by people who will support a new ministry begun by him and his church's youth pastor, William Robinson.
Shiloh Problem Solvers, a program designed to keep young men on the right path, will have its grand opening Monday at the organization's facility at Kennedy Park.
There are several slogans on Shiloh Problem Solvers' literature that succinctly explain the ministry's purpose: "Family + Community + Faith = Successful Child in Our Community," says one. "Raising children, developing sons, and deploying fathers," says another. Continue reading here.
Docs Quit Practice to Open Ministry From The Dispatch Online
Last spring Dr. John Kelley and Dr. Chance Williams realized that they shared many of the same hopes and dreams. They each began to sense a calling on their lives...The ministries would seek to help men in their roles as husbands and fathers. They also envision ministering to medical professionals. ...One plan under consideration is holding retreats for men which would "pull them out of the rat race and help them to refocus," Kelley said.
