140 people have come and gone from the 2009 Man in the Mirror Annual Summit in January. What a weekend it was! Attendees included pastors, lay leaders, regional ministry leaders, national denominational leaders, wives and sons. They were challenged and inspired by meeting like-minded friends, attending workshops, and praying for one another.

The Summit offered 5 main sessions and over 20 different workshops. Attendees heard Patrick Morley speak on The State of the Men's Movement, and How to Survive the Economic Meltdown. David Delk shared the four strategies Man in the Mirror is pursuing to help fulfill its mission to reach every man in America with the Gospel. Pete Alwinson shared a personal challenge for leaders to look forward to the new year with courage and opportunity. Ministry leaders like Ike Newingham (The Gathering), Roy Abbott (Focal Point), Rich Gerberding (Men of AIM), David Dusek (Reaching Every Man Florida) and Brian Doyle (ISI) shared ideas and best practices. We also heard from denominational leaders like Doug Haugen (ELCA), Larry Malone (UMC), Bill Terry (IPHC), and Leonard Albert (COG-Cleveland). And that's not everyone!

Many of the sessions were taped and we are busy preparing those videos for online posting. Check the Man in the Mirror website regularly if you would like to see them. In addition,
the official blog continues to be updated with pictures, reviews, comments and news from the Summit and its attendees.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! We are planning the 2010 Annual Summit for the last weekend in January once again (the weekend before the Super Bowl seems to work well!)

Man in the Mirror Field Network Update

It's February already? We just completed our 2009 Annual Summit here in Orlando where we conducted a debrief for our 2008 pilot associates and gathered up some key "lessons learned" and best practices.  Two workshops were offered at the Summit: one on the Man in the Mirror Field Network going forward and another on how to successfully bring a No Man Left Behind conference to one's community. By January 30th, we hosted four teleconference calls in an effort to recruit new men for our field network in 2009.  Pastors, men's ministry leaders and individuals from across the country who have a heart for discipling other men now have an opportunity to use training, resources and other tools from Man in the Mirror to further their discipleship efforts and perhaps start or grow their own ministry! Additional conference calls are scheduled for February. If you're interested, be sure to send an email  to allenio@maninthemirror.org so you can get the details for the conference call.

Two Great Evening Events for the Men AND Women of Your Church and Community

Surviving the Economic Meltdown

Host a two hour outreach event at your church based on Patrick Morley's new book, How to Survive the Economic Meltdown. You have four options: You can teach it, select someone to teach it, show DVDs of Patrick Morley teaching it, or have one of our faculty teach it for you-your call. Go here for more information.

An Evening for Couples MarPrayer Cover Small

Your church can host An Evening for Couples, based on the new book, The Marriage Prayer. You could put on a dinner, a dessert, or just host a gathering. Help the couples of your church and community with biblical application, real-life stories, and introduce them to praying for their spouse every day. We'll give each attendee a Marriage Prayer card and the book itself makes a great takeaway for follow-up and small groups. We have marketing materials (posters, bulletin inserts, an email header, etc.) that you can use to promote the event (see www.themarriageprayer.org). If you are interested or want additional information, email ruthcameron@maninthemirror.org.

EQMIM-Feb-09
Congratulations on the outstanding Summit last week. I felt that the flow of the agenda was excellent and the information and knowledge that was shared was right on the mark. I was very impressed with the quality of the men that were there. A few key points that really stood out for me personally are:
1.     I need to build deeper, more meaningful relations with my key leadership team members.
2.     Working ministry to men is a marathon and it takes years upon years.
Once again, thank you for the outstanding Summit. I look forward to working with all of you in Ministry to Men.

How Grace Changes Men

Come to Orlando March 6-7, 2009
or Atlanta April 24-25!

The Gospel Men Conference is a time to help men reflect deeply and enjoy the grace of God in Christ. The Gospel itself is the source of ongoing power to change us into men that enjoy and glorify God. The conference seeks to explore the implications of His grace in all the areas of a man's life over time, facilitate men in local churches growing together, and point us toward a lifestyle of 2 Timothy 2:2 influence in other men's lives.

We want to explore and be transformed by how God's grace changes men! Join us and pray for this time. Get more info at www.thegospelman.com!
Dear Pam
The 411 on Successful Men's Events

calendar Dear Pam,
We would like to have a men's event this year, but our church budget has been cut due to the economy. Any suggestions?
--No Budget, Tampa, FL

Dear No Budget,

The financial crunch is definitely being felt all over. However, you CAN have a men's event and not affect the church budget. How? Make your event break even financially. Sounds easier said than done, I know, but here is how it works. Almost any event that you do will have some upfront costs. These may be funded by the church or provided by a generous giver. Use a ticket calculation form to determine all of your costs for the event (venue, food, materials, speaker, etc.). Then set a goal for the number of men you would like to see attend your event. Do the math and determine what you need to charge each attendee to break even. Once the event is held and all registration costs are received, you put the upfront costs back into the church budget. You may even come out ahead if you promote it well!
Please call or email me if you have further questions or would like to receive a copy of the Ticket Calculation Form that we use for our events which, by the way, are all designed to break even.

Serving Together,
Pam

ReachOut Outreach Ministry Encourages Young Men through Mentoring Program
From the Nassau Guardian

Tyrone Laing, now a businessman once was a drug trafficker. "But, after making the decision to choose Jesus, we decided the way in which we were going about our lives was not the right way," Laing added. "And in transforming our lives, what we did was make a career out of living positiively ... and what we want to show the young people is they have to be optimistic in life.

He wants to show young men how they can be transformed through Reachout Outreach Ministry's first "Transforming Our Youth Through Godly Principles" conference in February in the Bahamas.
