How to Survive the Economic Meltdownbarna67% of Families "Noticeably" Affected by Economic Downturn
According to Barna Research people have been affected by the economic downturn in the following ways:
  • Two out of three families are noticeably affected - one out of four have been affected in a "major way."
  • The people least affected are under 30.
  • 20% of people decreased their giving to churches or other religious organizations.
  • Nearly 1/3 of adults reduced their giving to non-profit organizations.
Among church attenders 35% said their church offered a special talk about how to deal with the financial crisis and ways to address is. More than half of churches increased their material assistance, such as food and clothing ministries.

How can you help respond to the people in your church? Don't let this difficult but unique opportunity to go by. This current crisis may be one of the greatest spiritual opportunities of our lifetimes. Don't let people waste their pain - offer them Christ. We're praying that millions of men and women would come back to God in weeks and months ahead. Check out SurvivetheMeltdown.org to find free resources to help your congregation and small groups.

Each seminar - Success that Matters, Dads That Make a Difference, Seven Seasons, Rewired, Mission Driven Life, The Marriage Prayer and/or How to Survive the Economic Meltdown can be licensed separately. MIM provides speaker's notes, PowerPoint videos, and support materials. The Field Associate works with local churches to set up seminars and then delivers the material himself, earning an honorarium. Father's Day is the day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood. It was during a 1909 sermon about Mother's Day when Sonora Smart Dodd became inspired to create Father's Day. She wanted to show how thankful she was to her father for taking care of her and her siblings after the death of her mother. --History.com

fathering your child's heart? Do you want a dynamic relationship
with your children that models what it means to love God and
others truly and passionately? The Dad in the Mirror is a blueprint for men who want to break the cycle of past fathering mistakes and create a new, heart-centered pattern for a healthy and loving family.

Conference Draws Over 12,000

Thousand of men from over 38 states attended the First Baptist Church of Woodstock 15th Annual Men's  Conference led by Pastor Johnny Hunt, the newly elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention. First Woodstock CSF Chapter hosted workshops to help sportsmen launch a chapter-based ministry within their own home church. Many churches desiring to launch an effective outdoors ministry have contacted CSF headquarters wanting to start a chapter for the purpose of engaging sportsmen within their local community. As a resource team for the local church since 1994, CSF has discovered events and projects that are proven in establishing effective men's ministry. Men are looking for "Fellowship with Purpose." Visit www.christiansportsman.com to learn more about starting a CSF Chapter in your church.

The 411 on Men's Ministry

Dear Pam,

Getting men to attend a large event at our church has not been a problem. How to keep them growing is where we fall short. Do you have any ideas on how to do this?

Falling short,
Brad

Dear Falling,

Men are busy! Fact! So you really have to be flexible and work around their schedules. Getting them plugged into a small group is vital to their continued growth. How to do so is the hard part.

I would suggest offering MANY different times and locations for these groups. Perhaps survey the men of your church and find out some various times that would work for these busy guys. Maybe it's 6:00 a.m. at Starbucks, a lunch meeting at someone's office, a group that gets together at the gym right after work, or even motorcycle enthusiasts taking a ride together Saturday mornings. The point is to find out what works for them. Then incorporate the study. You could use one of the many books we have available in our Books! by the Box program, the Equipping the Man in the Mirror devotional, any of the event Life Plans, Pat's online Bible studies, etc. Please let me know how this works for your church!

Former Businessman Impacts Lives

DUNDEE - When Ed Bland was a young boy growing up in Mississippi, he dreamed of being rich, living in a large, fancy home and traveling the world. He was well on his way when, in his mid 30s, he realized that God had different riches in mind for this ambitious businessman.

FIRST-PERSON: The church's message for men

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (BP)--This is a true story. It happened years ago on a Sunday morning, right during the middle of the church service for everyone to see. I couldn't believe my eyes, or my ears. I'm sitting on the third pew in total disbelief that I'm hearing a sermon which feels a lot more like something my old football coach would be saying instead of the a gentle, low dose of expectation that had become customary. I have to admit, it felt good.  Read more.

Fishers of Men Dinners Convene Local Leaders

All around the country groups of local pastors and lay leaders are gathering to share a meal and discuss men's discipleship. Man in the Mirror field associates and staff are hosting these events at local restaurants in an effort to connect leaders with a common passion and determine local interest in bringing a No Man Left Behind conference to the area. A recent Fishers of Men dinner in Pomona, California packed an IHOP restaurant, and soon leaders were sharing and encouraging each other. By the end of the dinner, the leaders were asking for four conferences to be held throughout Southern California over the next year or so.

Want to meet other men's discipleship leaders in your area and discuss hosting a local leadership training conference? Contact Jim or Greg today: jimangelakos@maninthemirror.org or gregwilkinson@maninthemirror.org. Or call 800-929-2536.
