Greetings Brothers

In 2006 we have the opportunity to celebrate an exciting occasion with one of our partner ministries, Man in the Mirror. Countless lives of men have been changed through 20 years of ministry to men. We at United Men of Faith are grateful for the trail they’ve blazed before us and treasure our relationship with them. We are also pleased to help them introduce The Fourth Seed, a publication for men who desire to reach other men.

UMOF is co-hosting three training events. Essentials for A Sustainable Ministry to Men, in the next four weeks in Basking Ridge, NJ on October 14-15, Arlington, VA on October 29, and Tidewater, VA On November 5. Essentials for A Sustainable Ministry to Men is a must attend event for pastors and leaders serious about building a disciple making ministry to men in their church. See you in the trenches!

Your servant in Christ, Bob Keiderling,
President & Executive Director for United Men of Faith

Strength and Peace

Sunday, May 22, 2005 was a particularly beautiful day here in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, the afternoon was clear, the air was cool, a great day to do some yard work. With a box of tools in my hand, so I could change the spindle on my weed whacker, I headed out the front door, my foot missed the first step of the porch, and down I went.

Tools crashed loudly to the deck, my wife came running to the door and looked out to see me laying there in a manly fashion laughing in my pain, and it was painful. She asked if I was OK, and decided it was funny because of my laughter. Then she took to the telephonic broadcast network to share the comedic episode, which had just taken place on our front porch. The yard work did get completed...

Stop the Gossip
Group Tip from Bible Study Zone & Nav Press

We are bombarded with many gossip newspapers, television shows, and magazines. As followers of Christ, we must not entertain gossip but stop it in its tracks. Even the most well-meaning people sometimes slip into exchanging gossip by “sharing” unnecessary information out of concern for others. Unfortunately, gossip or negative information shared in a group can tear it apart.

Here’s five ways to handle gossip;

  1. Do not pass on gossip.
  2. If it sounds like gossip stop the person immediately and graciously tell him/her that you would rather not hear the rest of the story.
  3. If it’s already out in the open, ask the person if he or she has prayed for that person over a period of time and examined their own life (Matthew 7:3).
  4. Ask also, if he or she has judged the person (Luke 6:37) or passed this on to anyone else. If so, he or she may need to go back to those he or she spoke with and ask for forgiveness. If he or she has stood in judgment, encourage him or her to ask God and perhaps the person for forgiveness.
  5. You may also want to study these passages from Proverbs in your group (Proverbs 11:13, 16:28, 20:19, 26:20).

Encourage your group to refuse to listen to gossip. You may want to use some of these great ideas to role-play a situation and have a group discussion.

Announcing THE FOURTH SEED:
A Leadership Magazine for Men

But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil [the ‘fourth seed’] is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. (Matthew 13:23)

The Fourth Seed is a “thought leadership” publication for the Christian men’s movement with daily devotions to encourage, inform, and equip leaders in the battle for men’s souls. This bi-monthly magazine will encourage leaders on a daily basis with ideas, stories, and truth that God can use to enhance their ministry.

We believe it will become a rallying point for the cause of evangelizing and discipling men. Do you have an encouraging testimony or tip regarding men’s discipleship? Email it to: thefourthseed@maninthemirror.org and we may include it in an upcoming edition of The Fourth Seed.

Financial partners of Man in the Mirror will receive The Fourth Seed automatically. Others may order a subscription for $24 per year. For more information or to order your subscription to The Fourth Seed, please email us at the following: thefourthseed@maninthemirror.org.
