October was a fruitful month, as God gave United Men of Faith the opportunity to provide men’s ministry leadership training in North Jersey and the Washington DC area through Man in the Mirror’s “Essentials of a Sustainable Ministry to Men”. We also trained and equipped approximately 100 men to be the man God has called them to be in Erie, Lancaster, and Lebanon Pennsylvania. These seminars were presented by the local faculty of Great Dads.

The City Mission staff in Erie was also trained on The Six Basics of being A Great Dad in order to make it part of their curriculum. You can bring training and equipping seminars to your area by calling us at 610-437-1992. Our next training will be on December 3rd, 2005, in Harrisburg, PA.

Dr. Paul Backlund was part of the original leadership team of what was then Lehigh Valley Men of Faith back in 2000 and served faithfully for several years. He has always been a great encouragement to me. Please keep Paul and his family in prayer as his wife, Kathy, was suddenly taken home to be with the Lord at age 56. We mourn the loss of Paul’s wife, friend, and confidant, but rejoice that she is in the presence of our Creator. Details of arrangements are available through our office.

Leadership Training Opportunities Approaching Quickly

Another Look at the Divorce Rates

…it should be realized that the "close to 50%" divorce rate refers to the percentage of marriages entered into during a particular year that are projected to end in divorce or separation before one spouse dies. Such projections assume that the divorce and death rates occurring that year will continue indefinitely into the future-an assumption that is useful more as an indicator of the instability of marriages in the recent past than as a predictor of future events. In fact, the divorce rate has been dropping, slowly, since reaching a peak around 1980, and the rate could be lower (or higher) in the future than it is today. (emphasis added)
