Scary Statistics

In December 2003 the Barna Research Group released a study that found only 4% of Americans hold a Biblical worldview. That equates to about 4,000,000 of 108,000,000 men 15 years of age and older (unadjusted for gender).
How did it come to pass that only 4% of Americans hold a biblical worldview? How is that possible? Given the billions of dollars spent each year to advance and maintain Christianity, how could that happen? Given that nearly 40% of Americans claim to be born again, how could this be?

Quote of the Month
"Have you ever noticed how many men in the Bible failed in the second half of life? Our enemy is so cunning that he will wait forty or even fifty years to set a trap." Joe Aldrich

  • Why would Butch Davis, coach of the Cleveland Browns, purchase The Dad in the Mirror for every father associated with his football team?
  • Why would a businessman purchase a copy of The Dad in the Mirror for every father in his church?
  • Why would a reviewer on Amazon.com write about The Dad in the Mirror “(5 stars) This book has had a tremendous impact on me as a dad! Patrick and David have done a superb job in describing the difference between 'fathering for performance' and 'fathering the heart'. I especially like the "Straight to the Heart" section at the end of each chapter. I highly recommend this book for all dads, soon-to-be-dads, and grand-dads.”?

God at Work During the Hard Times
Over the past three years, a large number of churches and non-profit ministries have been hit with reduced donations and funding. In May of 2003, The Barna Research Group reported that "the proportion of households that tithe their income to their church – that is, give at least ten percent of their income to that ministry – has dropped by 62% in the past year, from 8% in 2001 to just 3% of adults during 2002."

The recent recession, a volatile stock market, the September 11 tragedy, terrorist threat, and the Iraq War seem to have all effected people's ability and/or willingness to give. The result has been wide spread budget cuts and layoffs throughout Christian churches and ministries including the Moody Bible Institute, Focus on the Family, Jews for Jesus and many more.

Even during these times of financial challenge, God is moving to build his kingdom. During the past year, God has enabled Man in the Mirror to deliver almost 50,000 Bible study messages via webcasting at no cost to the viewer. In addition, we’ve provided churches and individuals with over 1 million books to distribute. In 2003, Man in the Mirror's National Training Center held 14 courses in men's evangelism and discipleship training and graduated over 585 leaders. More than 7,500 men also attended one of our 170 men's events during which 3,300 men committed or recommitted their lives to Jesus Christ.

Would you consider doing two things? 1) Would you stop right now and pray for your church, for Man in the Mirror, and for any other ministries God has laid on your heart? Many ministry leaders are facing very difficult starts to the New Year. Pray that the enemy would not gain a foothold. 2) If you feel led, would you make an investment to help us reduce our 2003 deficit and minister in 2004 by clicking here?

We rejoice in what God has done to build his kingdom during 2003, and we anticipate all that He has planned for 2004. Please let us know if there is any way we can serve you.
