Field Network Update
Three Pilots Launched

We launched the Man in the Mirror Field Network over the summer with the goal of partnering with and equipping leaders who are passionate about men's discipleship. Three groups of associates have started working already:

6 field associates located in or around Chicago, Grand Rapids, Birmingham, El Paso, Washington, D.C. and Sarasota, FL, are working with local churches to host a No Man Left Behind Conference for leaders.

10 field associates spread across North Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Florida, Alabama, Illinois, Virginia and the D.C. area are helping local churches plan a Man in the Mirror seminar, or planning a large regional men's event using Man in the Mirror seminar content and faculty.

12 field associates in most of the above markets as well as Tennessee, Idaho, New York and Missouri are being trained to conduct their own ½-day Reaching Every Man trainings in their local area.

That's nearly 30 men that are developing 1:1 relationships with their area pastors and leaders while leveraging Man in the Mirror products and services to help meet the needs of those pastors and leaders.

In addition to the groups above, we are preparing a church ministry consultant package to equip local associates to work directly with local church men's leadership teams on an ongoing basis.

God is moving!  Men will be discipled!  Our mission will be fulfilled!

Want to join up? We are looking for the second "round" of field associates to start in the first quarter of 2009. If you're interested, please contact allenio@maninthemirror.org, and plan on attending Man in the Mirror's Annual Summit in January!

Prayer Caucus
Room 219

capitolIn early 2005, Congressman J. Randy Forbes from Virginia gathered a small group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives who began meeting in Room 219 of the Capitol to pray for our nation. The gravity of their meetings was derived from the humble sincerity of their belief that God could heal America.

On November 18, 2005 certain Members issued a formal "Call to Prayer for America" - a call to "pray without ceasing" for God to heal our land (1 Thes. 5:17). You can read more about the prayer caucus here.

Last month Patrick Morley spoke to the Congressional Prayer Caucus about the urgent necessity of reaching men. You can read more about it in the September 29th edition of the Weekly Briefing.
In the colored boxes throughout this edition we've included stats and tips on marriage.

The Bigger Breakfast
Churches across the UK are taking part in The Bigger Breakfast, an attempt to break the world's record for the most men eating breakfast at the same time. Fact sheets on sensitive men's issues such as prostrate cancer and pornography will be distributed. "We're delighted at how churches are responding to The Bigger Breakfast," says Phil Creighton, BMM vice president. "We want the day to kick start ministry to men across the UK, and these will be terrific resources for churches. Read the full article here.

McCartney at the Helm
Promise Keepers is expected to undergo major changes after co-founder Bill McCartney was brought out of retirement to once again head the nearly 20-year-old organization - arguably the most prominent among men's ministries. McCartney, 68, returned to the helm of the organization, assuming his new role as CEO and Chairman on Monday, five years after having resigned. He also brought back with him former Promise Keepers executive Raleigh Washington to serve as president. Read more here.

Men Must Reach Beyond Local Church Chapters
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS)--With its goal to "help men know Jesus Christ," the Commission on United Methodist Men must reach out beyond its
chartered local church chapters to connect with a wider range of men, say its leaders. One method to accomplish this is through certification to be a men's specialist by the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

Dr. Patrick Morley will be speaking at The Gathering for Men in 2009.

The full report is here.

Run and Pray
You will see them early on Saturdays at Kellyville Ridge jogging, stretching and chatting. Not only are Darren Pettit and the group of men getting fit, they are fitting time for their faith into their weekends.
The group meets at 6:45 AM and prays for 15 minutes before embarking on a 45-minute exercise routine of hill runs, push-ups, sit-ups and sprints. The Rouse Hill and Stanhope Gardens Anglican Church men's ministry member said the idea for the group came from discussions about how to reach men in the community. ''Men don't tend to share their problems and discuss things by sitting down and having coffee, they like to be working or doing things. This allows us to relate to each other and open up about the struggles in our lives while training,'' Mr. Pettit said.

Southern Baptists Help in Gustav Relief
David E. Hankins, executive director of the Louisiana convention, said, "As we discover needs, we are confident that Southern Baptists will rally to help those
in need. We are grateful for the disaster relief volunteers who are already on the job." Jim Didlake, director of men's ministry for the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board who is part of a disaster relief team on the coast, reported to the The Baptist Record, the convention's newsjournal, "The spirit of the people to whom we've talked is good." The Knights of the Columbus sponsor conference on Abortion's Effect on Men
"As an organization of lay men that has a strong history and commitment to life, we think it is very important to highlight the issues faced by those fathers whose children are aborted," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. "There are three victims of every abortion, the child and both of his or her parents, and it is our hope that this conference will be the beginning of a ministry within the Church to these fathers, who grieve the death of their unborn child in isolation and silence."

Dear Pam
Puzzled Plans

calendar We are in the process of putting together our 2009 calendar of events for our men's ministry and are planning to host another one of your Man in the Mirror seminars. How do we know which seminar to select? Should they be done in a particular order?
--Excited about the Next Step

Dear Excited,

That is a great question and I'm happy to help you get started with your 2009 planning. Thanks for allowing Man in the Mirror to meet your men's ministry needs.

I'd like to direct you to an informative video on our website that will answer your question very clearly.  Please click where it says "Which event is right for your church?" This video walks you through the Wide-Deep Continuum, which will help you to determine where men are on their spiritual journey, and then target the activities and opportunities you offer to men based on where they are spiritually.

Didn't that simplify your decision? Please call me at (800) 929-2536, ext. 110 so I can reserve your date, get your seminar posted on our website and ship you some marketing materials to get started promoting.

Serving you to disciple men,
Pam
