Men’s Ministries Rise to the Katrina Challenge

I am working with 2 men (New Orleans evacuee's) to locate jobs. One has an interview with Acme Brick as a fork lift operator this afternoon at 2:00 PM CST and another is a welder. I have made a contact with National Frame Rail in Sanger for him to discuss open positions soon.

Thus begins the very practical report by one lay leader to his church in Texas detailing more than a dozen concrete actions the men of their church are taking to meet the needs of people displaced due to Hurricane Katrina. All across the nation, churches are stepping forward to meet these needs. One church in Florida adopted 350 families to help in whatever way they needed! This tragedy is an opportunity for churches to show the love of Christ.

We want to know! How is your church or men’s ministry helping out Hurricane Katrina victims? Send us your reports and we will share them as an encouragement and example to others trying to figure out how to help. Send your reports to brettclemmer@maninthemirror.org, and look for a web page dedicated to these practical examples of applying the Gospel in difficult times coming soon.

Use of Technology Grows in Churches – Barna

Websites: Nearly six out of every ten Protestant churches (57%) now have a website. That is up from just one-third of all Protestant churches in 2000, an increase of 68%. Among the churches most likely to have a website today are those located in the western states (62%) and large churches (84%).

E-mailing: Surprisingly, a majority of churches send e-mail blasts to their congregations. Such technology was relatively inaccessible to churches at the start of the millennium, but 56% now rely on the process for reaching their people. Two-thirds of all churches that attract more than 100 adults use this technology.

Man in the Mirror Hosts First Leadership Summit

Man in the Mirror hosted its first Leadership Summit on August 18-20, laying out our emergent vision for a Leadership Community. 55 leaders from around the country converged in Orlando for this “think tank” on new ways of using technology to connect leaders together in the Battle for Men’s Souls.

David Murrow, author of Why Men Hate Going to Church, was the plenary speaker at the Leadership Summit. He says his message is not to call men back to the church, but rather to call the church back to men. Visit David’s website at www.churchformen.com.

Attendees included national, regional and local leaders and pastors who are passionate about reaching men with the gospel, and have been working with Man in the Mirror in various ways. More than 15 presentations were made by attendees, including case studies and breakout session reports.

To review some of the work done at the Leadership Summit, go to http://www.maninthemirror.org/leadershipsummit/thanks.htm. You can stream David Murrow’s message as well from this site.
