“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20

For Society: Faith Affects Behavior

Contrary to some of what you hear, Christians are actually good for society. God has taken a bit of a beating in the public eye this year, as several prominent anti-God books have hit the bestseller lists. According to a study from The Barna Group:

“Atheists and agnostics…are less likely than active-faith Americans to be registered to vote (78% versus 89%), to volunteer to help a non-church-related non-profit (20% versus 30%), to describe themselves as "active in the community" (41% versus 68%), and to personally help or serve a homeless or poor person (41% versus 61%)…The typical no-faith American donated just $200 in 2006, which is more than seven times less than the amount contributed by the prototypical active-faith adult ($1500). Even when church-based giving is subtracted from the equation, active-faith adults donated twice as many dollars last year as did atheists and agnostics. In fact, while just 7% of active-faith adults failed to contribute any personal funds in 2006, that compares with 22% among the no-faith adults.“ Read more here.

For your business world: Business Men in Christ

Tom Chesire, president of Business Men in Christ relates, “Men's ministry for me personally comes from having sat in a pew, even having been in a position of church leadership, without really following Christ Biblically. I was raised in the church, but I never had the heart knowledge. I never truly served Jesus. I was what you might call a ‘cultural Christian,’ until I had a personal crisis in 2000 and experienced true brokenness before Christ. I think a lot of men in the church are cultural Christians.”

Find out more on how he and two other men got into the business of the gospel with founding Business Men for Christ and why it’s the hardest job he’s ever loved.

“I flew to the event with my son and father-in-law and friends from our church. Seven of us came to the event. It forever changed and saved my life and marriage. I had no close Christian friends who really knew me.” —1997 SITG Attendee

Men’s Ministry in…South Africa: Seminars Go Across the Big Pond

“Greetings from a warm winter day in Durban, South Africa. Thank you for your hospitality during my visit to Orlando… I was fortunate to have helped organise and attend the Success that Matters seminar in Durban just prior my visit to the States. Upon my return I was encouraged to see the many small groups of men that have committed to meet weekly at various settings in and around the
city. I have since become part of one of these small groups. Tom has returned this week to see how these small groups are going. He is indeed a very faithful servant!”  —Jimmy Wright

Our thanks to John Campbell from the MIM Seminar faculty and Tom Marshall for their diligent efforts and willingness to serve Christ’s Kingdom in South Africa.

We’ve now done church seminars in Africa, Asia and North America. Any takers out there in Australia, Europe or South America??? Contact Pam at pamadkins@maninthemirror.org.

FYI (For Your Inspiration): News From Around the World (Wide Web)

We asked, you answered. Thousands of people are downloading the Man in the Mirror Bible Study Webcast, and some of you wrote to share your stories. Here’s one from Darren…

My name is Darren and I am writing to you from Vernon, BC Canada. I was introduced to Man in the Mirror in a men's bible study at a church I once attended. I am now working with one other gentleman in helping a plant church grow their men's ministry, and I have introduced them to Man in the Mirror in hopes that we can share Pat's message with the men of the church. We are looking to start with Husband in the Mirror, which I think is fantastic. I downloaded the audio some time ago and listened to the clips in my car on the way to work. It has greatly benefited my marriage and my walk with Christ with my wife.

Got a great story about using a Man in the Mirror resource to disciple men in your church, workplace or community? Send us your testimonial today. If we use it, we’ll send you a free copy of Pat’s newest book, A Man’s Guide to the Spiritual Disciplines. Send your stories to brettclemmer@maninthemirror.org.

Men’s Ministry in…Iraq: Books for Troops

“Hey there, happy Monday from Iraq. I received the box of books this weekend. Thank you! I have already handed out a couple of dozen and the Soldiers were very grateful to receive them, especially from a former Navy and FBI guy who they can relate too. I primarily handed them out to my leaders, i.e. Commanders, First Sergeants, Platoon Leaders, and Platoon Sergeants, as I want to focus the leaders on personal growth;
hence they set the example for those who follow them. Again, I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful donation in the spiritual development of soldiers’ lives.” — A Hero in Iraq

Know someone in Iraq or elsewhere overseas that might want to give books away to the soldiers around them? Give us a call and see how you can buy a case to send over. Call Vanessa at 800-929-2536, or 407-472-2100.

For your church: How Many Ways Can You Use Books for About a Dollar?

This popular program has distributed close to 7,000,000 books since it started in 2000. There are two new wrinkles available for the fall: This summer we rolled out the 4 Title Case, in response to all those questions: “Do I have to get a case of all the same
title?” You can now get a case with 12 each of Point Man, Wild at Heart, The Pursuit of Holiness and Twelve Ordinary Men. Order 4 titles in 1 case while supplies last.

We’ve also provided some resources to help you use the books to get men’s small groups going. Check out our “Small Group Challenge” by clicking here.

The individual cases of Twelve Ordinary Men are running low! Order now before it’s too late. This title has been very popular and our supply won’t last much longer. Click here to order today.

Education News: Older college student enrollment on the rise

6 million students aged 25 and over enrolled in college in October 2000 – 37 percent of the 18 million college students. 56 percent of these older students attended school part time. (U.S. Census)

This shows you can teach an old dog new tricks. More and more men are catching on to the ‘lifelong learner’ idea. Make sure you keep challenging your men to “Focus their minds on things above” too (Col. 3:2).

For Small Groups: Success That Matters Study Guide

Did you know nearly 68,000 men have participated in a Success That Matters since the seminar’s inception? To celebrate Success That Matters 25th year show the men in your group a success that really matters! The Success That Matters Study Guide is a companion to the Success That Matters Life Plan. Use of this 92 page, detailed guide will help you expand the study from 6 to 16 weeks, if desired. Click here to find out more.
