"We want to remove EVERY artificial barrier to discipling men."
What is the Leadership Community?
The Man in the Mirror Leadership Community Portal will use technology to create a community that connects and supports leaders in the Battle for Men’s Souls.
Why do we need a Leadership Community?
Individual leaders will be more effective – and avoid pitfalls and mistakes –- if they can learn from their peers. If more leaders have access to easy-to-follow ideas, then more men will be reached and discipled for Christ. Twice as many passionate disciples in America could change the world.
Who will use the Leadership Community?
Pastors and lay leaders who are discipling men.
Why is Man in the Mirror doing this?
The Leadership Community allows us to serve exponentially more leaders without an exponentially increasing budget. Our Big Holy Audacious Goal is that God would use us to help 100,000 leaders reach 10,000,000 new men for discipleship. In the past 3 years, the Leadership Training Center has graduated 1700 leaders. We believe online training and a community-based learning model will allow us to train and equip tens of thousands of leaders each year.
How will this work?
We will harness technology to create a virtual, on-line community that:
-
Identifies leaders and potential leaders
-
Recruits leaders willing to disciple men
-
Trains leaders with effective strategies for sustainable discipleship in the local church
-
Encourages leaders in the difficult and often thankless task of men’s discipleship
-
Resources leaders with proven ideas, leadership strategies, practical “how-to’s,” and easy-to-use tools for discipling men.
What needs will the LC meet?
One-stop shopping will empower busy leaders to disciple men rather than reinvent the wheel. We will collect the best resources that are currently being used to disciple men. The MIMLC will be the ‘information hub,’ providing access to “best of class” resources such as best-practice examples, Pat Morley’s audio/video Bible Study, on-line training, and coaching. It will also be a forum for exchanging ideas with other leaders.
Can you give me a concrete example?
How would you go about having a rite of passage with the teenagers in your church? With a few minutes of effort, you could think of three or four things you might try, but you’d also soon realize it would be a lot of work.
What if you could log into the leadership community and review what eight churches are already doing? And what if each entry had all the files and information necessary for you to adapt it to your situation, as well as reviews written by other leaders who have already used the materials. When we collect these strategies and make them easily available to men, many more leaders will be willing to disciple men. We want to remove EVERY artificial barrier to discipling men.
Has Man in the Mirror ever done anything like this before?
We have already seen the power of this idea in the use of the online audio/video Bible Study from our website. With no marketing, we currently have more than 3000 participants a week involved in Bible Study around the world. More than 250 groups are meeting to study the Bible each week.
We believe many of the leaders of the groups would not be leading a study if they had to prepare material and teach the group themselves. Because we have made it easy to use Pat Morley’s high-quality Biblical teaching, leaders are discipling men.
How does this fit with Man in the Mirror's vision?
The LC is a natural extension of the ministry’s vision to equip leaders to disciple men. It builds on the things we have learned from our current programs for training and resourcing leaders. The community makes all of our existing programs even more effective, as well as leveraging the great work being done by other ministries and leaders across America.
How will you build the Leadership Community?
The first phase consisted of project research and design. We worked with Cynthia Typaldos (www.typaldos.com), a leading consultant in the area of building online community. Her previous projects include building GolfWeb in the mid 1990’s and recent work with Hewlett Packard. We are now working to define the specifications of the community and the scope of the technological development. We will soon be opening up the first phase of the Leadership Directory on the website disciplemen.com.
