Strategies for Daily Bible Readers
from Pat Morley
Volume 124
April 4, 2005
Are you reading through the Bible with me in 2005? If so, like most of us mere mortals, you probably...
- Got bogged down in Leviticus and Numbers (they read like the tech manual for a piece of software. Remember, we live by a more recent version of the software. Thank God for the free upgrade to Jesus.)
- Found yourself reading and re-reading the same sentence over and over
- Found yourself daydreaming about your favorite team
- Fell asleep reading about the details of constructing the Tabernacle
- Wonder, “What’s up with all that blood sprinkling?”
- Are really glad you live now instead of then
- Are either: (a) a few days behind, (b) feel under pressure because you are so far behind, or (c) fell so far behind you’ve given up
If so, how many days behind are you? I’m several days behind. But don’t despair because, notwithstanding, any of the forgoing you probably...
- Are learning so much your head is spinning
- Didn’t think you could do it, but feel good about sticking with it
- Have a deeper reverence and love for God and his Word
- Have more questions now than ever
A Get Out of Jail Free Pass: If you have dug yourself in too big a hole, then let me encourage you with a “get out of jail free” pass. Begin again TODAY with today’s date, and forget about the days you missed. You may do this again anytime during the year (but don’t abuse it). It’s called grace.
Alternate Strategies: If you’re having a hard time keeping up, here are some ideas. First, just read the days you can, and forget about the other days. Second, just read the New Testament and Psalms this year (another year, if you want, you can add back the Old Testament).
Why am I suggesting these cuts? God would rather see you in His Word a little than not at all.
Together in the Battle for Men's Souls,

Pat Morley
